NOTE: The trail seems to run cold on old Valentine Sr. with the above record. No will or estate records have ever been found for Valentine or Jane.

Also note that they had been looking for Valentine in Anson county, which is where Richard & George Braswell signed the Regulator's Petition on October 9, 1769.

* Valentine "X" & Patience Bracewell

Strong circumstantial evidence suggests that Valentine Braswell & his wife Jane Pope are the progenitors of the Orange County North Carolina Braswells. They did not leave any wills, but we can reasonably assume that they named a son Valentine. The second oldest Valentine appears to Valentine "X" who died in Wake County by December 1794. Evidence strongly suggests that Valentine Sr. was deceased by September 1766, therefore Valentine "X" would be referred to as Jr in what records are available to distinguish him from his father.

NOTE: Orange was formed in 1752 and Cumberland County in 1754. In 1760 Orange Co. is north of Cumberland - Duplin Co. joins Cumberland Co. to the southeast, Johnston to the northeast with Anson Co. on the west side of Cumberland County and Bladen south of Cumberland. The counties were very large.

1827 - February 7, Mrs. Sarah Brazell declined serving as Admx. of Robert Brazell estate. Laban Taylor was allowed to serve as Admr. by himself. 1829 - June 1, 1829. The return of the Com'rs appointed to divide the Robert Brazell estate was received and adopted. Return recorded, showing estate was divided into two parts and lot #1 was drawn by Mrs. Sarah Brazell, the widow, and lot #2 by Wiley Brazell. The division was of slaves and cattle, each share valued at $2331.18. 1830 - January 5, Laban Taylor and Ann McNish, Admrs. of Robert Brazell, were granted more time in which to file their return. 1831 - January 4, Thomas Tucker - Sarah Brazell Marriage Contrct dated January 4, 1831 in contemplation of marriage. He agreed that her property shall be kept separate from his and at her death same shall become the property of her son Labon Taylor & John L. Taylor. 1832 – Laban Taylor, Guardian of Wiley Brazell, minor of Robert Brazel, dec’d. Guardians bond dtd Dec. 19, 1832 with David Hall & George Morrison as sureties. 1833 – June 3, Labon Taylor, Adm. of Robert Brazell estate was dismissed. (page 97, Oct. 1961 issue of The Georgia Geneaogical Magazine)

1842 – January 5, J. T. Goodhead, security for Sarah Taylor, Admr. of Labon Taylor estate applied to be released as her bondsman also from her bond as guardian of Wiley Brazel, an idiot. It appearing to the Court that she is “wholly incapable” of managing the estate of the said idiot she was removed as guardian and Robert P. Burton was appointed in her stead. 1842 – Minutes, January 16, 1843, Justices Clark, Burton, Patterson, Smith presiding. Sarah Taylor, guardian of her minor children. Wm. Lemuel, Jeremiah, Lavinia, Margaret Ann, Jane, Lewis Lynch Taylor; appointed their Nat. Guardian.

John L. Taylor, one of the heirs of Wiley Brazel, petitions the Court for a division of the Brazel estate: “and it appearing to the Court that the heirs of Labon Taylor, deceased, are co-heirs of Brazel through Sarah Taylor the widow and natural guardian of the minor children of Laban Taylor she consenting”, therefore Robt. Lang, Wilson Oden, Henry T. Wilkens, Joseph J. Crews and George B. Fleming were named com’rs to make the division, Mrs. Sarah Taylor was directed to give bond in sum of $3500.00 sd natural guardian of her said children. The other heirs, viz. David Tanner in right of his wife Sarah, Robert Taylor and William Taylor, being of legal age. (pages 105 & 106 Oct. 1961 issue The Georgia Genealogical Magazine)

Wiley Brazell died unmarried and his estate was shared by Mrs. Sarah Brazell's two sons John L. Taylor & Laban Taylor and their heirs. 1789 – A list of men living on the north side of Great Satilia which is part of the 3rd District in Camden County at present. April 23rd 1789 – included – Matthew D. Brazil.

I certify the foregoing is a true list of the men liable to do duty in the 3rd District and that they reside on the no. side the river. And that there is as many or very nearly so, residing in the same District on the So. Side the river. /s/ Hugh Brown.

1805 – Georgia Land Lottery - Mathew Braswell, Washington Co., 1 draw, blank

1808 – March 15 (Divorce Petition) Polly Brazel says she married Matthew Drake Brazel of the county on 23 February 1797. He has not provided for Polly and her children. During the short period they lived together he beat her and threatened to kill her. They have lived separate the last 7 years. Matthew has committed adultery with other women.

1808 - April Term. We, the jury, find that there is sufficient cause for a divorce. Each party to have the property they now possess. Dnl Brinson, Foreman (Tattnall County Loose Papers)
