Nuncupative Will
State of North Carolina, Nash County, January 10, 1781. This day William BRASWELL’s son came before me one of the Justices for said county and made oath that he heard Sarah HUNT say on her death bed about the 20th December last in her proper services that her will and desire was that Jesse HUNT should have two Cowes and one heiffer and that if Henry LONG ever returned from the war her will is that he should have three Cows [and more] and if he H. LONG never returns from the war her will was that the said three cows shall go to her daughter Dicey HUNT and the bed and basin to Dicey HUNT’s daughter Morning and the Clothes aforementioned to her son Jesse HUNT and that she gave the remainder of her furniture to her daughter Dicey HUNT and the remainder of her clothing and that she gave her wearing hat to her daughter Sarah BRASWELL also the above mentioned Judith HUNT came before me & made oath that she was present at the time of the above ... was given as before mentioned and that she heard Sarah HUNT say that her will was that her young cattle not already given should be equally divided between her son Jesse HUNT and her daughter Dicey HUNT ... Signed Thomas HUNT
Proved April Court 1782.
Note in Sarah HUNT’s will she mentioned a Henry LONG (maybe her brother) [or a son by a former marriage?] relationship not stated since it was a verbal will & written down by someone else who probably didn’t think to state who Henry LONG was. He appears on the 1782 Nash Co. Tax List living next door to Jesse HUNT (son of Sarah LONG? & Jesse HUNT). Stated in this will “if Henry LONG ever returns from the war” [Note: Need to search for his Revolutionary War record.]
