Richard Braswell's will would have been filed in Southampton Co., VA had he lived until 1749 when the boundary lines changed. Evidence of this is the deed filed in 1752 Southampton between Richard Vick & Albridgeton Jones.

NOTE: Richard Braswell inherited 60 acres from his Mother, Susannah Braswell in her will dated 1714 and his brother William Braswell inherited 40 acres, "out of 100 acres in all" William sold his 40 acres in 1764.

In the name of God Amen. I Brittain Alford Senr. of the County and state aforesaid being of sound mind and disposing memory do hereby constitute ordain and appoint this to be my last will and Testament. Item 1st It is my will and desire that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner and suitableto my circumstances. Item 2nd I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Bathsheba Alford for and during the time of her natural life or widowhood all the land attached to these premises that I at present occupy together with any three negro slaves and their increase that I may die possessed of. that the then Said Bathsehba may choose. Also any part or all the farming utensils stock of all kinds including horses, oxen & household and kitchen furniture and provisions also my road waggon and harness, Barouche and harness and oxcart. Item 3rd It is my will and desire that at the death or intermarriage of my wife Barthsheba all the above property given and bequeathed to her as aforesaid be taken by my Executors whom I may hereafter appoint and divide among all my heirs according to this my last will and Testament. Item 4th I give and bequeath to my children Thomas, (?Lpirc), Betsy Ann, Missey, Jefferson, Jourdan, Dicey, Nancy and Brittain an equal portion of this division of all property that I may die _____ and possessed of. Item 5th I will that this distributive share of each of my daughters Betsy Ann, Missey, Dicey, and Nancy shall belong to them and the heirs of their bodies and not subject to the debts of their present or any future husband. Item 6th It is my will and desire that my Executors cause to be divided by their disinterested presence the residence of my negro slaves after my wife Barthsheba shall have made her choice as aforesaid then persons appointed by my executors for that purpose shall value out lot off said slaves into parcels as equal as possible to be drawn for by all my children the said lots to be made equal by those drawing lots of greater value paying to those who draw lots of less value. Item 7th It is my will and desire that my Executors make an equal distribution of all my many notes and accounts that I may died possessed of among all my children. Item 8th I hereby constitute, ordain and appoint my sons Thomas Alford and Jefferson Alford my executors to execute this my last will and Testament. Jasper County was created December 10, 1807 from Baldwin County, number 31 in the order of it's creation. It was originally named Randolph County. (The present-day Randolph County was created on December 20, 1828) A part of Jasper was set off to Morgan in 1815 and a part to Newton in 1821. The name was changed December 10, 1812. This Indenture made and entered into this second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three by and between James S. Tison of the State of Georgia and Jones County and William Brassall of Said State and county of Jasper, Witnesseth that the Said James S. Tison for and inconsideration of the Sum of three hundred dollars cash in hand paid hath this day bargained Sold conveyed & given possesion unto the said William Brassell a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres more or less lying in the state of Georgia in Jones County on the Ocmulgee River it being part of Fraction No. one hundred and ninty six in the twelfth district formerly Baldwin now Jones County it is more particulaly (sic) defined and described in this way,

Viz. It is all the land that lies on the lower side of the branch where the said James S. Tison now lives that is the branch that runs through the said Fraction No. 196 and is the dividing branch between himself and Jonathan F. Bridges bounded on the other Side by No. 197 owned by James Pruett having a Spanish oak corner cornering with Britain Brassell's land
from thence runing along the line of lot No. 197 which James Pruetts line to a past oak corner from thence running along the line of lot No. 189 untill it comes to the branch above mentioned then down the said branch as it runs to the Ocmulgee River from thence down the said river to Britain Brassell's land thencealong the s.d Brassell's line to the begining (sic) Spanish oak corner to have and to hold the Said land and premeises (sic) the Said James S. Tison for himself his heirs and assigns and all and every other person or persons whatsoever doth warrant and defend the right and title of Said land to the said William Brassell his heirs and assigns forever in fee Simple in Witness whereof the said James S. I, WILLIAM BRASWELL, for the natural love good will and affection which I have and do bear unto my children viz. my sons JACOB WILLIAM, RICHARD JOHN and ALLEN, I give unto each of them one horse beast and one cow and calf. Also I give to my daughters NANCY one cow and calf and one feather bed and furniture, to ELIZABETH one cow and calf one feather bed and furniture, to SALLY one cow and calf one feather bed and furniture and I further give to my son ALLEN fifteen head of hogs pewter pots and working tools and I do hereby put the said children in actual possession of the aforesaid property to act with the same at their own discretion clear from me my heirs or assigns and at their pleasure to bargain sell and dispose of the same. William Headen Senior of the County of Jackson State of Georgia being very low and weak in body but of sound mind and memory taking into view the certainty of death sooner or later and wishing my worldly concerns do make this my last will and testament hereby evoking all other will or wills by me heretofore made (that is to say) is my will that all my just debts be paid out of my estate by my executors hereafter named and what property I have bequeathed in the following manner.

I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Jane Headen the act of land whereon I now live with the appurtenances, the tation tools, household and kitchen furniture, two Negroes wit Sam and Sary and my bay horse, three cows (her choice), the hogs remaining in the plantation at my decease to be hers during her natural life and then be divided among children, to wit, William Shed, James Robertson, David Robertson, James Turner, Henry Turner, William L. Brazeal who intermarried with my daughters, Wm. Headen, George Headen, Eli Headen, and Jesse Headen (my sons) bequeath unto Elizabeth Headen wife of John Headen, Salley Terrell my grand daughter five shillings each give to my son in law Allen Headen and my son Robert Headen five shillings each balance of my estate not herein disposed of will that it be divided into twelve equal shares with a sale if it can be done, but if my heirs cannot in the division of the property for it to be sold and the money to be divided into twelve equal parts of the said parts to my son in law William Shed, other part to my son in law James Robertson, an other part to my son in law David Robertson, other part to my son in law Henry Turner, other part to my son in law Wm. L. Brazeal theirs and their heirs forever, one other part to my son Wm. Headen, one other part to my son George Headen, other part to my son Eli Headen, and one other part to my son Jesse Headen to them and their heirs forever, the two remaining parts I wish to be put in the hands of my two sons William Headen and George Headen and to be by them disposed of as they may see fit for the use of Robert Headen my son, and my daughter Prissy Headen.

In the name of God Amen I James Brassell of said State and County being of Advanced age and Knowing that I must shortly depart this life or ????? deem it right and proper that as respects myself and family that I should make a disposition of the property which a kind providence blessed me. I therefore make this my last will and testament therby revoking and annulling all others heretofore made by me.

Item first I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner suitable to my circumstances and condition my sould I trust shall return to rest with god who gave it.

Item 2nd Second I give and bequeath to my beloved grand son James T. Brassell one thousand dollars to be paid to him by my Executor herein after named and to be paid to him when he becomes twenty one years of age and to be raised out of the proceeds of my property. I also give and bequeath to him one horse sadelle and bridle, also one bed, bed stead and furniture.

Item third After the death of my beloved wife Patsey the ballance of the property to be Equally divided between Samuel Prewitt husband of my beloved Daughter Polly and Lorenzo D. Padgette husband of my beloved Daughter Elizabeth and my beloved son Willis Brassell, William Brassell and my beloved Grand Son James T. Brassell.
