The following is a summary of this 15 page application and includes all

Dear Madam:
The data which follows was obtained from the papers on file in the
pension claim W.4888, based upon the Revolutionary War Service of
Richard Braswell.

Richard Braswell was born in July, 1755 in Wayne County, North
Carolina. The names of his parents were not given.

While residing in Wayne County, he enlisted and served as a private with
the North Carolina troops, as follows.
From January, 1776, three months in Captain John Shepherd's company,
Col. Richard Caswell's regiment, and was in the battle of Moore's Creek;
from Nov, 1777, five months in Capt. Abraham Shepherd's company, Col.
Shepherd's regiment; from Nov, 1778, five months in Capt. Shute's
company, Col. William Caswell's regiment, and was in the battle of Brier
Creek.

He moved from Wayne County, to Anson County, NC. He was allowed pension
on his application executed October 11, 1832, at which time he was
living in Anson Co, where he had lived about 22 years.

Richard Braswell married in October, 1780 in Wayne Co. NC, Penelope
Blow. The soldier died August 20, 1839.

His widow, Penelopy Braswell, was allowed pension on her application
executed July 25, 1840, at which time she was aged seventy-nine years
and living in Anson County, NC. She died August 30, 1846.

The children of Richard Braswell and his wife, Penelope are given in the
document as:

Elizabeth born July 22, 1784
Burel or Burwell born November 30, 1787
Urvin (son) born March 2, 1790
Benjamin Blo born June 28, 1795
Pattey born September 19, ____
Bryant born October 22, 1799
Cullen born April 18, 1801

In 1851 the following were the surviving children: Burwell Braswell,
Benjamin Braswell, Elizabeth Dees, Bryant Braswell, and Cullen Braswell.

Matilda "Jan", daughter of the above noted Cullen Braswell and his wife
Equlla, was born June 17, 1838.

Mrs. Lucresa Braswell stated in 1844 that she was well acquainted with
the soldier, Richard Braswell ever since she was a little girl and that
she lived with a near neighbor after his marriage to Penelope Blow,
until his death; her relationship to the family is not shown.

C. E. Braswell, grandson of the soldier and his wife Penelope, was
Postmaster at Sneedsboro, Anson Co. NC, in 1877, the names of his
parents was not definitely stated.

There are no further data in this claim relative to the family of the
soldier.
